Customizing stencils

We are frequently asked about customizing stencils of individual customer's pictures and designs - we only carry out this service for business corporations and companies who can accommodate high production costs and who require large units of their design - high set up/design costs make it non-viable for individual customer's one-off stencils.

Developing stencil designs is an involved process. Intricate designs are very time consuming to digitise and simple designs (such as letters) require careful drawing and conversions to create smooth curves and outlines, often needing several samples to get right.  The basic process is laid out below and each design needs to go through each step (1 - 7). Each stage can require several hours to complete and stage 3, the computer digitising, usually taking a lengthy period.  For example, it will take Henny Donovan several weeks to digitise the original designs she offers for sale on this website. Size and scale of any design is also an important factor. Once the design is drawn on computer it is then converted to be cut on laser. Laser samples are then produced and once any corrections have been applied the stencil itself is produced unit by unit. This process is therefore very costly with basic designs taking several hundred pounds (UK) to develop and produce and larger or intricate designs much more. It is not really worth going through this process for one-off designs. Wall sized stencils have to be broken down onto several sheets to fit the size of the laser bed.

Bespoke Words, Letters, Numbers, Quotes and Fonts

Please note: We DO NOT offer a bespoke stencil cutting service for individual words, letters, numbers, names, quotes or fonts, as the digitising and production costs are just too high to make it viable for one-off stencils, because of the length of time involved in getting smooth and perfectly curved letters for each individual word design. We therefore do not offer quotes for making bespoke stencils of this nature.

Basic rates for customizing stencils

For your information customizing stencils is charged at the following basic rates:

1. Design, drawing and stencillizing design £60 UK pounds per hour
2. Scanning, computerised block fill of designs £60.00 UK pounds per hour
3. Computer digitising point by point £60 UK pounds per hour
4. Conversion to laser £60.00 UK pounds per hour
5. Cutting of samples £60.00 UK pounds per hour
6. Corrections to designs £60.00 UK pounds per hour
7. Individual unit cost for each design, price dependant on size and intricacy

Terms & Conditions of this service

*Quotes for customizing stencil designs are only given on receipt of specific artwork that needs to be developed as a stencil design.
*Payment for this service is by direct bank transfer or by cheques for UK customers. This service is not available to order online or for payment by credit/debit card
*Design work is only undertaken on receipt of payment.
*The bespoke service takes a minimum of 6 - 8 weeks, depending on intricacy/scale of design and on other company commitments.
