Spirals and Swirls - The Dotty Spiral and Swirls Stencil range from Henny Donovan includes a range of spiral and swirls for a wide choice of decorative applications. Use to create impressive wall features, or for elegant and simple fabrics for modern curtains and cushions - or use to create stunning floor effects.

This page features the Classic Dotty Spirals Theme Pack - 3 different sized spirals with 3, 4 and 5 rings - approximate diameters 50cm, 35cm and 25cm - see sizes below. Each spiral comes on a sheet with a row of two or three extra dots for extending the end of the spiral. This allows you to create different types of spiral arrangements - see our examples here.

Spirals are great decorative shapes and these easy to use dotty versions are great for either bold or subtle finishes depending on colour treatment and layout used. Use strongly contasting schemes and continuous pattern density for intense effects or subtle close-toned colour combinations or white on soft tones for subtle finishes.

The spirals can be spaced randomly apart, interlocked together or overlapped to create all-over effects. To overlap the spirals simply use masking tape to mask off the dots on one of the overlapping spiral sections - this will immediatley make it appear as if it is behind the first spiral. Combine the three sizes to create more interest.


Or simply use the spirals repeated regularly in rows to create borders or strong geometric patterns and shapes.

Specifications

This theme pack comprises 3 dotty spiral stencils on three sheets of 125 micron mylar. The dot size is 24mm (1") for all three spirals. Each spiral also has a separate row of two or three dots on the same sheet for extending the end of the spiral to create joining and looping designs.

The diameter of each spiral is:

1. Dotty spiral with 5 rings, diameter approximately 50cm (19 3/4"), on a sheet 60cm square
2. Dotty spiral with 4 rings, diameter approximately 35cm (13 3/4"), on a sheet 48cm square
3. Dotty spiral with 3 rings, diameter approximately 25cm (9 3/4"), on a sheet 35cm square.

Above - this effect is great on floors and walls. The largest spiral of this spiral set is rotated and repeated in an interlocking 'swirly' sequence using the three extending dots to join the spirals together. Stencilled first in Spearmint and Chinoiserie Stencil Paints and then random dots over-stencilled in Very Berry, English Rose, Indian Purple, Agapanthus, Spa, Verbena, Buttercup and Harvest Gold. This is then repeated in the same formation in each spiral.  Any bright random colours will do for the second set of colours. You can also use the Oversize Dotty Spiral Stencil to achieve this effect - especially good for larger areas.
